Who Am I And where do I come from?

Journey from Latvia To Turkey

Welcome to my crochet and knitting blog. My name is Kristina and I am a passionate crafter with a love for all things yarn.

I was born and raised in Latvia in a bilingual family. I speak Latvian and Russian languages equally, but I consider myself a native Latvian because I graduated Latvian school. Later on, I continued my education at Riga Technical University – Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology. After that, life took me to the beautiful Mediterranean coast of Turkey, where I have my own family now.

HOW DID I END UP KNITTING and crochet?

It is not the end, it is just a beginning!

I started knitting when I was 6 years old, and my mother gave me the first set of needles and taught me how to purl and knit. Those were thin sock needles (approx. size US 0, 2mm), I must be crazy, but I used them for a very long time and knitted long scarves and clothes for my dolls. Later on, I learned how to work with a crochet hook. Since then I got hooked with knitting and crochet.

I love knitting and crochet because it is a relaxing and mindful hobby that allows me to unwind after a long day. It’s a chance for me to step away from the chaos of life and focus on the present moment, one stitch at a time.

I love the freedom to experiment with different yarns, colors, and patterns to create something truly unique. Each project is a chance to try something new and push my skills to the next level.

But perhaps the biggest reason why knitting is such a big part of my life is the sense of accomplishment and pride that comes with completing a project. There is nothing quite like the feeling of holding a finished piece, knowing that I put my time, effort, and love into it.

It brings joy and purpose to my days, and I am grateful for the sense of community that comes with it. Whether I am working on a project alone or sharing techniques and patterns with other knitters, the sense of connection and belonging is something that I treasure.

It’s a hobby that I truly love, and I am grateful to have it in my life.

WHAT WIll You FIND here?

I can’t call myself a professional knitter since I didn’t get any paper document saying – Master at Knitting. I learned basics at school and later on I self-taught everything I know for now. I love exploring new techniques, I like to improve the quality of my garments, and I am ready to show what I learned, and how  I do it.

On my blog, you will find a variety of crochet and knitting patterns, ranging from beginner to advanced.

I also share my own personal projects, tips and tricks, and the occasional yarn review.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you stick around to see what crafty adventures we can embark on together.

Happy crafting!

Kristina Virka
