Hey everyone!
I’m so excited to share what I think is the cutest keychain you’ve ever seen—and you’ll be able to crochet it yourself! This handmade accessory is the perfect way to personalize your keys, backpack, or purse.
This new favorite DIY project is a fantastic and fun challenge for everyone. We’ll cover everything from how to crochet the two identical pieces to joining them together and adding those final magical touches that make it so special.
What you will need:
Crochet hook (I used 3.5 mm)
Sewing needle or darning needle
Scissors
Stuffing material (I used cut strips of bubble wrap)
Written Instructions: Crochet Horse Keychain
Chain – chain stitch
sc – single crochet
This horse keychain consists of two identical parts that are joined together. The horse’s tail, mane, and hanging loop are added at the end. Each part begins with the first leg crocheted separately and then joined to the second leg.
Piece 1 & Piece 2 (Make 2 identical pieces)
First Leg:
Chain 4. (Do not make a slip knot; leave it loose and count it as a chain stitch)
Row 1: Do 3 single crochets (sc) starting from the second chain. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: Do 1 sc, then an increase (inc) of two sc in the same stitch, and then 1 sc. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 3: Do 4 sc. Cut the yarn. Set this piece aside.
Second Leg:
Repeat the steps for the First Leg (rows 1-3). At the end of row 3, chain 1 and turn, but
do not cut the yarn. Continue with row 4.
Row 4: 3 sc, inc, ch-3, join the 1st leg by inc in the first stitch.
Row 5-8: 13 sc, ch-1, turn.
Row 9: 11 sc, dec, ch-1, turn
Row 10: dec, 9 sc, inc, ch-1, turn
Row 11: inc, 4sc, dec, ch-1, turn
Row 12: dec, 4 sc, inc, ch-4, turn
Row 13: 4 sc, inc, 3 sc, dec, ch-1, turn
Row 14: dec, 3 sc, inc, 4 sc, ch-1, turn
Row 15: 5 sc, inc, 2 sc, dec, ch-1, turn
Row 16: dec, 2 sc, dec, ch-1, turn.
Row 17: dec, dec, ch-7 (ear).
Sew the chain 7 ear to the right side of the piece 1 row below.
Final Assembly:
Make two identical pieces following the instructions above.
Align the two pieces with the wrong sides facing inward.
Join the two pieces together by crocheting them with single crochet stitches around the edges. Start from ears! When turning corners and first 3 stitches around the head – 2 single crochet in 1 stitch.
Stuff the horse.
Attach the horse’s tail, mane, and a hanging loop. You can use simple crochet chain or crochet cord.
